6 exciting ways to add texture to your wedding day

One of the most exciting things about planning a wedding, is the opportunity to get creative with an array of opulent textures. With the ability to create dimension, emphasize delicate detailing and add an unexpected twist to your wedding day, here are 6 exciting ways to use texture.

Lace

Thanks to Kate Middleton, lace has remained a firm favourite for bridal gowns and shows no signs of leaving anytime soon. A classic fabric, while lace may have been the norm for wedding dresses for years, designers have adopted a more modern approach to reinterpret vintage fabrications. No longer just about lace, extra dimension and creativity is easily added through beading, floral appliques and laser-cut enhancements for a touch of romance. When vintage lace is combined with impeccable construction and a flawless finish, the result is a simply stunning wedding dress. Whether you opt for a fit and flare silhouette or dramatic ballgown, this terrific texture definitely deserves the spotlight.

Velvet

Long renowned for its richness, velvet continues to win our hearts. The perfect way to add a little luxe, the options are endless when it comes to velvet. For attire, it’s all about the groomsmen’s suits and bridesmaid dresses. In winter, opt for darker colours such as burgundy and bottle green or for spring and summer weddings, keep it light thanks to pastel hues.  And of course, there’s the finishing touches. From wedding stationery tied lovingly with a little velvet bow, to table cloths and runners (our favourite, of course!), get creative and embrace velvet for your wedding.

Crochet

Think crochet is just for doilies? Think again! At Magpie Linens, we’ve given crochet a modern makeover to take this texture into modern times. From shabby to chic, think table runners embellished with a touch of sparkle to add another dimension. We love these in pink, perfect for a wedding that longs to exude vintage vibes.

Feathers

Nothing screams texture more than feathers and if you’re looking to add drama to your wedding day, do it with your dress. Chic feathers have the power to add pure glamour to your gown, not forgetting movement, as they catch a breeze, or while you take to the dance floor. Whether you opt for a feathered skirt, or create just a little drama thanks to the addition of a feather shrug, nothing nods to the roaring twenties quite like feathers.

Satin

Previously believed to have had their day, satin is back in a big way and we couldn’t be happier about it. This year, it’s all about big skirt and satin really delivers on this. Ballgowns lend themselves perfectly to this texture and we love the addition of extra textures. From embellished cap sleeves, to beaded belts, the romantic fabric is definitely stealing hearts.

Sequins

Last but by no means least, brides’ glitter wishes are met thanks to the addition of sequins and sparkle. At Magpie Linens, we know just how amazing a touch of sparkle can look at your wedding reception. With the ability to really capture the light and add dazzle to your reception room, our sequin table cloths and runners are loved by brides looking to add glamour to their wedding. Available in a wide range of colours and styles, check out our collection online here.

2018 wedding trends you’ll actually want to use for your big day

Hello 2018! If you’re getting married this year, you’re in for a treat. Shake up your wedding with the trends that are set to have a BIG impact this year. What’s so great about wedding trends, is that you can pick and choose the ones you love, and add your own unique stamp to them. From unexpected bridal fashion, to table decor, these 2018 wedding trends really offer it all.

Re-think pink

Whether it’s millennial, blush or frose, there’s no denying that pink is having a bit of a moment. The great thing about this trend is that you can go as subtle or in-your-face as you like. Whether you opt for a hint of it or go all out with the hue, it’s the perfect way to add a touch of romance to your wedding day.

Our favourite way to style it is with velvet pink table cloths and runners, draped beautifully over reception tables. You can shop or hire our collection here.

Keep it local

While we do love a big do, there’s something undeniably romantic about an intimate wedding. Having a wedding in your favourite restaurant or pub, not only guarantees good food, but also gives your wedding a more relaxed vibe. Plus, you can celebrate well into the night.

Caped crusader

Perfect for the fashion-forward bride, veils are being ditched in favour of bridal capes. Throw it back to Solange Knowles in 2014 or Serena Williams’ Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen number last year and give your wedding attire and unexpected update.

Just add sparkle

Unsurprisingly, this one’s our favourite! 2018 is set to be the year of sparkle and we’re all over it. From embellished gowns to sequin-studded receptions, add a touch of luxe to your wedding day. The use of sequins really allows you to add your own unique stamp to your wedding day. Available in a wide variety of colours, easily incorporate your colour scheme and bring your wedding day vision to life.

City hall wedding dresses

While the grandness of some of the UK’s spectacular city halls is worthy of a designer dress, if drama isn’t your thing, keep it short and sweet. If the Sex and the City movie taught us anything, it’s that sometimes simplicity works. A tea length dress or skirt is perfect for the bride who dares to be a bit different and offers the freedom to dance the night away.

Marvellous marble cakes

There’s no denying that inspiration comes in all forms, so it isn’t surprising that cakes are taking cue from interior design trends. Marble cakes are a real focal point at receptions and perfectly match a modern-minimalist wedding theme. The chic swirled pattern mimics marble to give your cake a sleek stone-like effect, which is stunning. We love this cake paired with our sequin navy table cloth to showcase it perfectly.

Opulent bridesmaid dresses

If you’re a bride who loves drama, the 2018 wedding trend of opulent bridesmaid dresses is perfect! Sparkle is proving it isn’t just for festive weddings with glittering bridesmaid dresses shimmering under the summer sun. Gold and pink are top of the colour charts, while darker shades work wonderfully for winter weddings.

Navy is the new black

Bored by black? Embrace navy instead. The undeniably chic hue was popular for 2017 and is set to continue to make its way into weddings this year. What’s so great about the hue is that it works wonderfully when paired with a wide range of colours. Whether you choose to combine it with burgundy, green, metallic gold, grey, mint, or with warmer pastel tones such as peach, orange, and pink, navy offers endless options for your wedding.

Whichever 2018 wedding trends you choose to adopt for your big day, we’re sure it will be wonderful.
